When the Startup Becomes a Dinosaur

Posted on May 4th, 2009

I could not help thinking that Microsoft vs Yahoo conquest is just another example of the influence of money. By that I mean the financial influence of Microsoft’s vast empire, but when a company moves from a start with a mindset of becoming a (GASP) corporation.

In April, Yahoo was the 1996 initial public offering. Over the next four years of Yahoo was dramatic rise to power, culminating in a stock price of $ 475 a share early in 2001. This meteoric rise can be attributed to two main factors: innovative ideas and a reputation for giving visitors the information they want, even if it meant not Yahoo make money out of it. It was during this period of time that Yahoo was a success in acquisitions as a means of launching new products. You have Yahoo Mail, Yahoo Instant Messenger, and Yahoo Groups out of this strategy to purchase innovative products and making them uniquely Yahoo. The evolution of small startup to major Stanford Internet corporation seems to go smashingly well.

However, another important event started to happen at this time. The original founders of Yahoo became rich (According to Forbes, Jerry Yang’s net worth is 2.2 billion). They were no longer a big group of friends working together to see how far this can go. The thing was, and were given large sums of money to go. Here is the rub: Just when the reward has reached a time for hard decisions are taken.

This is where the real failure of Yahoo happened. It’s like the baseball player after his big contract year. They are fat. The mentality that lost the start. When starting a business was all about creating a vision for the company and to reach new and innovative ideas that fit that vision. When he finally became an Internet giant stopped and started to play defense. The answer was to continue playing the acquisition strategy. The problem is when they are growing is a great way to increase market share, but when you become a big corporation you are adding levels. These levels should be similar to the company and must be managed effectively. As a result their ability to adapt to change is greatly hindered. Some

along the lines of Yahoo is too big and became a society with levels of comfort and care. In 2007, the new board of Yahoo founder Jerry Yang as CEO, but he has shown unequivocally that is out of his element. He is a visionary and not a manager and now Yahoo is too big and out of contact for visionaries.

The cruel irony of all this is the reason that Yahoo had to start playing is in large part because the defense of Google, the company that helped build the outsourcing of its search Full-text to them. Unlike Google Yahoo held in any way that the start mentality. Perhaps their management style or group hugging or sitting around singing Kumbaya, but whatever they are saying ‘yes’ factor. Trends are not candidates. That will continue to push the envelope, while maintaining the best user experience, as all are able to maintain the mentality to boot.

What is truly surprising is that Yahoo may end up being swallowed by Microsoft, a company that will never be confused with having a startup mentality. Well, I guess great minds think alike.

8 Golden Techniques To Get People To Love The Rules

Posted on April 28th, 2009

Different things motivate different people. Some people are motivated to improve their appearance, while others are motivated by prestige or sexual conquest. Others are motivated by money. When it comes to work, many people are not motivated to do much of anything except to show and collect a paycheck. It is our job as administrators to create an environment where employees are inspired to do a better job and build.

A recent Gallop poll indicated that about 20% of those questioned described themselves as “actively disengaged” at work. Most of these people also said they were not given the right tools to do their job or were not given clear instructions to complete the task. From this survey, we see that the statistics are staggering. These employees are being described as “actively disengaged” are costing employers more than 300 billion dollars a year! This same survey showed that these individuals are more likely to be tardy or hooky and also described as less enthusiastic in their jobs.

A common mistake that employers make is perception that too many regulations for employees to follow. This is very motivating for the employee! They feel that they are not empowered to carry out a creative way for fear of breaking a rule. Having

employees feel they are not trusted is another critical error that makes the management. The creation of standards and policies is an employee of trust is a common practice in large companies. Includes an example that allows a certain number of days when a dying family member. This means that if there is no limit to the number of days, the employee who took advantage of their free time.

The following are tips for creating a work environment that fosters motivation.

Guidelines for a pleasant work environment • Minimize

rules and policies to the point. Rules are there to protect your business and create the structure if a rule does not serve that purpose, then you will have to consider the particular political retirement.

• Following the established rules, it is essential that all employees know what is expected of them. Apt ensure the promulgation of any regulations.

• Establish a code of conduct. Implement a collaborative effort that involves all or most of the employees working with you. A vision and mission statement that the ship is still sailing towards a common goal.

• Follow the rules without exceptions. If management is not to practice what you preach, you can expect their employees to keep within the limits?

• Management must address the inappropriate behavior immediately before they become habits. Use of advice or a progressive discipline rather than an approach that is in trouble “approach. •

Clearly workplace dissemination of guidelines for professional behavior. • Search

employee information standards and policies. Submission of ideas to improve policies for greater empowerment of employees. Sometimes the staff have great ideas, after all, to do the job every day!

• Make sure that these new ideas of consistency in implementing the policy of not come as a shock of cold to rank and file. If you have been to let employees “get out” with things in the past, should meet with them and explain that the new policies are in full view of mutual benefit.

Interesting Business And Internet Facts

Posted on April 26th, 2009

Want to learn some interesting facts and business of the Internet? The development of Internet and World Wide Web is a fascinating round made the fortune and established reputation.

Business Internet is the fastest growing businesses on the planet, and is available to everyone regardless of their business acumen or financial know-how. You might say that you already know about the Internet and using it every day, but how well do we really know about it and its development?

Many people confuse the difference between the Internet and World Wide Web. The early development of the Internet was conducted in large part by the Department of Defense U.S., while the WWW was invented by Englishman Tim Berners-Lee about 20 years later.

They are different entities, and how to explain the difference is to take the phone as an analogy. If your computer is analogous to your phone, your IP address is your phone number, specific to your phone, the World Wide Web consists of all the addresses of files that can be connected together public (eg equiv. Conversaciones for you are on the phone) and the Internet is the means by which it is connected - the telephone cables and wireless connections.

Thus, the web consists of all files, which can be text, images, videos and so can be accessed via hyperlinks from one IP address to location file to another IP address, and transmitted between the IP addresses using the Internet.

Although the World Wide Web began in 1990, we can trace the roots of the Internet as early as 1950 to 1960. It began after the Russians launched Sputnik 1 in 1957, and the U.S. military became afraid of the conquest of space by the Russians. He became aware of the need for rapid communication around the world for the sake of defense.

was in 1962 that DARPA or the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency was formed in 1969 and the first official live Internet, referred to as ARPANET. It was the idea of a man who is well known as the father of the Internet, JCR Licklider. His idea, which he called the Galactic Network, is considered the seed of the Internet.

Who knew then that Internet companies to thrive as it did? Apart from Licklider, Vinton Gray Cerf is considered one of the forefathers of the Internet. Cerf developed the TCP / IP protocol for file transfer packetized, and therefore played a key role in the development of the Internet.

The first long distance connection was also developed in 1960 by MIT researcher Lawrence G. Roberts and Thomas Merrill in 1965. Connects the TX-2 computer in Massachusetts from a Q-32 computer in California. However, telephone lines during that time could not handle the technology and the Internet was some time before that technology was common.

Many familiar names can be thrown into the pot, one of which is Al Gore. Many people mistake as the inventor of the Internet. While it is not true, that actively promotes, making it a key player in their growth. Al Gore popularized the term “information superhighway”, which was coined in 1974 by Nam June Paik. While the Internet has grown for decades, it was not until the 1990s that the World Wide Web provided that the action by which people can have easy access to the Internet. The computers were common by then, but Internet access is still in its infancy.

was in 1993 that the first Web browser, Mosaic, was released. The media took radio 38 years to have 50 million users or listeners. Television took 13 years, whereas the Internet only takes 5 years to achieve the same volume of use. Much of that had to do with reducing costs, of course, but it was a significant achievement, however.

A little known fact is that only about one third of Internet communication is in English, the most common of the other two thirds are in Spanish and Chinese. North America has the highest concentration Continental by 70%. On the other hand, the highest percentage of Internet users in Sweden is 75%. Another interesting fact about the Internet business is the number of pages or indexes that currently exist. According to Google, its index now contains more than 8 billion pages and growing rapidly every day.

Internet business is the fastest growing, and if you’re interested in having your own business is through the Internet that are most likely to succeed. Home business franchises are a popular choice for the traditional style of business because most start-up work has been done for you, and many operations are virtually turnkey.
